No substitute (2008-06-06)
I believe in competition but I tried a refilled cartridge and although the quality was fine it didn't last as long. Weighing that against the slightly lower price of the refills I think the originals are the way to go. Epson makes good printers and has been eclipsed by HP over the years. However I think you can still get more for your money by buying from the underdog.

When it comes to ink for my R1800 photo printer, I am concerned with the quality of the images I print. The Epson magenta UltraChrome Hi-Gloss ink cartridge provides superior resistance to water, fading and smudging. It is important to me that my prints are of high quality, so I don't attempt to use the cheaper compatible ink cartridges. The color can be duplicated, but all inks are not created equal. Third party options may produce a good print initially, but may not hold up or last as long.

Great/Only Choice (2005-09-14)
I don't know of any other choice of ink for the Epson R800 family of printers. {this is one of eight cartridges used for this family of printers. These comments apply to all colors.)

Compared to other families of inkjet ink such as a generation back of HP's technology, the color is even and wonderful. Permanance is excellent. Gloss finish is excellent for an ink jet printer. Hint: Use good quality and preferably Epson paper to have the fewest color balance and evenness problems.

Although not directly a problem with the ink, Epson's delivery system can clog. This will cause streaking. The only way I know to clear a stubborn clog is to use significant quantities of ink.

Impressive! (2008-10-22)
I can't get over how great this paper is! It outperformed the other brands I'd tried, including Kodak and Canon. Since my printer is a Canon MP610, one would assume that Canon paper would give the best results, right? Nope! This Epson paper blows it away. Crisp, vivid, streak-proof, dries instantly, and the images are durable. It also has a nice weight/thickness to it. It makes your photos seem like pro quality. I love it and I love the price! I don't think I'll ever use anything else.

I have a PictureMate Deluxe [which I love by the way] but I ran out or paper before running out of ink...so I ordered this photo paper to catch me up. No problems with these cartridges. They work fine. My only complaint is they are way too expensive for what they are. The consumer is getting ripped off tremendously by the manufacturers of this product. However, we all know that, but we don't have much recourse, do we?

Wonderful Printer! (2008-10-26)
To be blatantly honest, this is probably the best printer I have ever brought. Not only does it have many of the same advanced features of other (more expensive) all-in-one printers on the market today, it is designed so much more ergonomically.

From the built-in network connection slot to connect straight into your router, to the paper feeder that is actually within the machine (like an expensive laser printer), it has a high amount of functionality, and functions pretty quickly.

There are quite a number of options to choose from when printing, and the options are all very straightforward. According to what I have heard, that ink for this printer is also on the less-expensive side, which only adds to the advantages. Good luck choosing!

This printer does it all. Great! (2008-10-24)
I was apprehensive that some electronics that do more than one function don't operate properly after a few uses. However, after using this printer extensively over the past month, I am very pleased with every function it performs. It takes less room than it would if one had a separate piece for each function, so that's a big plus for me. I'm happy with the quality of the prints as well. Being wireless is an added plus as I can print from my notebook (laptop) from anywhere in the house or even outside on the porch. This is another great product made by a manufacturer that I have always trusted.

Very pleased, great color, quiet (2008-10-14)
This is my second MFC by Brother - I had my first one about 2 years, and finally it stopped printing in both red and yellow. I always used cheap ink - not Brother ink - so this may have contributed to it - but the money I saved in the 2 years buying cheaper ink - easily paid for a new MFC - so I'd do it again. I'm very pleased with the quality of this new MFC - I like the clarity of the options, making it very easy to fax, even if you've never owned a fax machine before. I have mine hooked up to an EAD (answering machine) and the fax will pick up if it hears a fax on the other line when the answering machine picks up. I haven't used the scanner yet - but I'm sure it works as well, if not better, then the old one. Overall - this is an excellent MFC for the price, doesn't take up a lot of room, ink is very easy to change, and if you want to buy off brand ink - it is easy enough to find. I would definately buy another Brother in the future.

Epson To60520 (2008-09-22)
The ink is great, however I lost my entire purchase price when the cable that moved print head broke shortly after replacing $40.00 worth of Ink. It would cost too much to repair, so I got a replacement. Unfortunately, none of the replacements available used the same ink. Not only that, the new ink is not as good as the old ink and print quality is poorer. Epson though comes out ahead in taking my money!

The colors aren't as vibrant as I hoped they would be but I am not disappointed. My DVDs look very professional and that was my goal! I had to run a batch of 25 at one time--so I took the opportunity to play around with the print quality settings, and frankly didn't see enough difference between best quality and normal to use the extra ink.

Nice Printer but ... (2008-08-01)
Bought this with the printer. Found that Dymo does not have a 64 bit driver for vista yet (been waiting for months now). I use this with my laptop instead of my main pc. Also the cost for the quaility is a little expensive too.

Slightly pricey, but worthwhile (2008-07-15)
I have used about 5 of these ink cartridges now for the DiscPainter. It may be a bit pricey since it's specifically for one unit, but the price has come down on amazon once already since it's release last year. I imagine as it catches on (because its a great mid-grade printer), they will become somewhat more inexpensive... hopefully.

In using these I've become good at printing economically. I highly recommend using white discs. The advantage is you can have a good amount of white space, and the disc still looks professional. I use Ridata white hub-printables, and people are really impressed with the quality of the printing.

I have printed over 200 discs on my current cartridge. This has been with some (maybe 20) full color discs and the rest have some white space and just have some text and a few lines of color.

I did a print job where the client wanted the whole disc to be black except some small amounts of white in the design, and I think I made 40 discs with an entire cartridge. The lighter the printing, the more efficient the cost.

Quality is great, and I love my printer and always have one extra cartridge ready to go! I am very glad I went this route over buying something in the thousands of dollars!

Great new product! (2008-02-08)
The Dymo Disc Painter is excellent and I love it! Fast, efficient and high quality all the way! I picked up 3 extra ink cartdridges (just in case) and after more than 2 dozen prints I'm still using the original cartridge that came with it. For anyone else who makes their own CD's and DVD's for friends and family, or just for having a nice looking archive I highly recommend this system. :D

Remember those handheld plastic label makers we all had as kids? You'd spin the wheel around and then clamp down when you got to the right letter (and you had to clamp hard to make a mark on that heavy-duty plastic strip). After you got your name out or made a message like "This is mine keep your hands off," you'd discover you spelled "keep" as "kep" and had to start over. Plus, the tape would invariably buckle and fall off wherever you stuck it.

Now label makers have joined the information age. The LetraTag 2000 labelmaker is akin to a handheld word processor, and boy, is it fun to use. There are so many cool little features that you really do need to read the instructions to take full advantage of it. To get started, you just flip up the top of the labelmaker and insert the cartridge. This model comes with 13 feet of standard white tape, but you can purchase extra paper, plastic, or metallic labels in seven different colors. The LetraTag requires six AA batteries, which are not included. Once those are in, you can press the red power button and get started.

The LetraTag defaults to normal text and lowercase letters, but with a little inputting you can create capitals, bold, big bold, italic, outlined, shadowed, or vertical text. It also has a box/underline feature that will surround your text with underlines or rounded, shaded, toothed, or pointed boxes, plus our favorite, the crocodile box (the croc grins at you!). If your labeling area is tight, you can use the two-line feature to double up the text so it prints two lines instead of one. It also provides a host of international letters and accent marks in addition to a range of symbols including a telephone, smiley face, heart, and cat.

As you input your label, what you've typed scrolls across the LCD screen (up to 72 characters). To go back and change your message, just use the arrow keys. When you're ready to print, you can press "shift-print preview" to see your label. Once the label is printed, just press the scissors key and the label will pop off. Handily, the last label made will automatically be retained in memory in case you turn the LetraTag off by accident.

customer service is lacking (2007-12-17)
The first unit I purchased was a complete dud. The unit had problems straight out of the package.

Customer service was no better. While they were friendly in their emails, they appeared to be clueless about the product and how to make it workable.

Thankfully the store I purchased it from allowed me to trade it for a different unit. I have had no problems with the replacement unit at the time of this writing.

If you like to gamble with your money, go ahead and get it. If you don't like dealing with less than satisfactory customer service, look to other brands.

I've got this label maker to. It works fine. Couldn't find anything as cheap with so many features.

Well, the letters print out pretty close together as if to save
space--I put a space between each letter--no sweat.
I noticed the S and 5 are almost identical just like you see them
on this page. Thats not a bad mark but when the two letters
are close together a quick glance might not be enough to
distinguish between them.

Inexpensive and great for most home/small office uses (2007-02-26)
I have used this label maker for all kinds of projects around the house and our homeschool classroom, and I really love it, for the following reasons:

1. The label maker itself is inexpensive.
2. It is simple & intuitive to use.
3. The replacement cartridges are much less expensive than other brands' refills, and very easy to replace.
4. The labels are pre-split for easy peeling (which is no small thing when you consider how long it can take to peel a label made with many competing products).
5. The labels can be immediately repositioned if necessary, without losing their 'stick'.
6. There is not a lot of wasted label stock from excessive margins, like with other labelers.

There are label makers out there with lots of fancy features and font styles, etc., but this suits my needs more-than-adequately, and at an excellent price. I love it for general indoor-only household/office use, such as labeling file folders, drawers and shelves, containers, spices, books, boxes, etc.

A note: These labels will not stand up to direct sunlight/high-heat applications because they are printed on thermally-sensitive paper. In my opinion they aren't a good choice for outdoors, very sunny areas indoors, or the garage in a hot climate, unless your label is intended to be very temporary.

Interestingly, I have seen fabric iron-on labels available for this label maker, allowing you to label clothing, etc. I haven't tried this feature myself, but I thought it was interesting to mention. My kids hate scratchy flap-type labels in their clothes, especially at the neck, but without them I lose track of valuable size/care information. This would also be great for labeling coats/hats/gloves, etc., which get left behind at parties, parks, etc.

This is not product-specific information, but a thought on labeling in general: I never appreciated how much labeling could improve the flow and function of our lives until I got started. One example: I decided to label the pantry shelves to encourage the kids to put things back in a place that makes sense, knowing this would save everyone time when looking for something. I didn't realize it would completely change grocery shopping, too. Now I can go into the pantry, look at the empty spots on the shelves, and 'voila!', my shopping list is nearly done and more comprehensively than before. Less time to create the list and fewer forgotten items. Besides, it stays much neater-looking in there! I am not an obsessively organized person, but I do appreciate a little order in my life. Labeling is an easy way to achieve a little of that, and it's actually kind of fun. $20-ish bucks for a little more time and a little less chaos isn't bad.

Good printing, Very poor label material! (2007-02-08)
I bought this as an occasional-use product, not wanting to spend 50 bucks for a labeler. It works pretty well -- but the included labels won't stick to ANYTHING! I've tried them on wood, paper, metal, and plastic and they fall off within hours. I plan to get a replacement label refill and try that. Maybe the glue was old. Otherwise it's OK for household use.

Easy to use (2007-01-30)
I thought the lack of the querty keyboard would slow me down. It didn't. This is an excellent labeler for only $20. I figured out how to make labels with different fonts, boxes, 2 lines, etc., in about 5 minutes, without reading the manual. The only small wish I might ask for is higher resolution print like the Brother labeler does. My wife uses that one. However, the labels with the split in the backing really makes this labeler superior for me. The Brother doesn't have the split backing and I've spent two or three minutes per label trying to peel the back off the Brother's labels. My son likes Dymo's alligator box outline. I like the BIG fonts option. I'm off to label some stuff that probably doesn't need a label, but I have new toy.

Great ink for Canon printer (2008-07-18)
These canon ink cartridges are a great value and using the same brand ink for the same brand printer will ensure you do not damage your printer heads or have to worry about leaks and stuff. I have never had a problem with canon ink on my pixma printer, and highly recommend their ink for their printers.

I like Canon's ink system because it is nice to see that the printer actually does use all of the ink contained in the cartridges, but I think that really is attributable to the printer more than the ink itself. As for the ink, it is high quality from what I can tell, and I've never had any problems!

Excellent Photo Printer With Minor Problems (2008-10-26)
First the good points of the IP4600; The photo print quality is excellent. The setup is easy. I am pleased with the operation of the printer. On the down-side; The IP4600 DOES NOT print CDs/DVDs even though several retailers (including Amazon) states that it does. Canon Tech Support seemed very surprised that the feature was given in their specifications. I have a problem with some incompatability between the Canon On-Screen Manual software and software installed on my computer. The manual would open once after a boot then fail on subsequent tries. Tech Support has no software fix, but are mailing a hard copy. ON the first print job after power-on the printer goes through several seconds of clicks and hums before it will feed paper and print.

Excellent Choice (2008-10-22)
I just replaced my 1999 vintage hp 970 Cse inkjet with duplex accessary with this new Canon ip4600 that automatically prints on both sides of the page , and couldn't be happier. I have grown to appreciate the Canon product line of cameras and now their printers. It is about twice as fast as the old hp 970, but the colors not quite as vibrant until you print out a glossy photo, and again I was impressed with the speed for a 4"x6" glossy print that looks like it was developed at Ritz Camera. The print was done in like 15 seconds!

I use this printer in my office for a lot of color graphs and two sided reports and reprints. The foot print is about right and looks great on my countertop return. I'll let you know if I can get 7 years out of this one like I did with the old hp. Also Amazon got this to me within 24 hours delivery with no hassles. Good choice and good service.

Canon Pixma iP4600 - Best for pictures (2008-10-12)
Having sworn off HP and Epson printers years ago because of problems with reliability and service, I decided to give Canon a chance. Based on the mostly stellar reviews of the iP4500, I decided to purchase the slightly cheaper successor model, the iP4600. I was particularly interested in the duplexing option for printing out longer documents, and the high-quality photo output.

The directions for setup were easy, although the entire process took close to 20 minutes, with all the packaging and cartridges, etc.

I've used the printer now for nearly two weeks now, and here are my initial impressions:

- Photo quality is excellent! I haven't had an inkjet printer in several years, but this thing blows away anything I've had before. If you don't look too closely, the prints on photo paper could fool me into thinking they came from the store, rather than my own printer. I also tried some off-brand photo paper, which seems to use a different printing preset than the Canon paper, but quality was comparable once I figured this out. Borderless printing seems to work as advertised, although I personally prefer a bit of a border.

- Speed is okay. I've only printed photos on the included 4x6in photo paper, but it takes less than half a minute per picture, which seems fast. Single-sided printing speed is acceptable -- about 15-20 seconds per side of text.

- Duplexing is slow -- the printer lets the front of the page dry before moving on to the back, and this takes an additional 5-10 seconds per sheet. This nearly doubles the printing time.

- Text quality is reasonably good, nowhere near laser-quality, but eminently readable.

While the printer has a relatively large footprint, it is nice that I can load paper into the cassette below the printer (which extends slightly from the front of the printer) or the rear tray, which I prefer for my desk setup.

All in all, I think everything I saw in the reviews of the iP4500 applies here. I am quite satisfied with the printer so far.

I use this ink all the time my printer is a HP printer. Using genuine HP ink from Amazon is great.

I did order the three pack for 34.00 but received the 2 pack for 28.00. I noticed you had removed the 3 pack off the site. I was not credited with a differance in price, which would have been nice.

Saves drive time! (2008-06-22)
When we know we are going to need ink in the near future, I've learned to buy it online from Amazon. Like many items, it qualifies for free shipping over $25. The price is comparable to retail, and keeps me from having to drive 22-40 miles to shop.
HP also provides free envelopes and postage to recycle its printer products. By ordering online and returning the spent cartridges, I get to do a double-whammy against waste, and change one more habit to help our planet.

ok but not great (2007-11-12)
These HP 92 black and 93 color inkjet cartridges are very light, easy to install and they allow the printer to print out good quality, durable black and all colors of ink on the page. They store for about a year after you buy them so if you want to stock up for your office or personal printing needs that's great! (They even come with an expiration date!) HP also packs these well so that it is difficult for the cartridge to become damaged during transit. These ink cartridges are also compact so storing them is easy.

One thing that I don't like is that the ink goes too quickly. If you print a lot, you might even need to replace this cartridge every ten days or so. My needs are about 15 pages per week and I have to change cartridges roughly every six weeks. That's not good; although to be fair to these HP ink cartridges I am printing graphics.

Another caveat: in a store you'll probably save some money buying this two inkjet cartridge pack. On some websites (ahem) the savings is lost as another reviewer correctly notes.

Overall, the quality of the ink is rather good despite my one complaint that the ink goes faster than I would like it to go. Nevertheless, the cartridges provide you with the ability to print a multitude of colors on your paper and replacement is easy.

Three stars for this product. These ink cartridges lose a star for not lasting longer; and this pack of two inkjet cartridges loses another star for being a little overpriced.

I was only looking for a printer and ended up purchasing this multi- function one. I've only used 50% of the functions (print/copy) It is heavy, big and slow, but the print quality is excellent for the price.

Best Multi-Function Out There (2008-10-21)
By far the Canon PIXMA MX700 blows the competition away. Ease of installation, networking, multiple paper feeds, 30 sheet fax, scan and copy feeder. Great quality at a great price. I replaced an HP Multi-Function with the Canon and couldn't be happier. With the networking and new software I can print, scan, fax etc. from any of the three computers in my home, couldn't do that with the HP even with a networked print server attached. Canon gets a thumbs up on this one.

Great so Far.... (2008-10-20)
Works great so far, someone said they had trouble printing on card stock such as business cards but I had no problem printing my business cards, I just had to put the card stock in the back paper feed instead of the front.

Using with Vista PC, excellent product, great value for the money (2008-10-13)
Product arrived earlier than promised. Faced a little hiccup during printer driver installation (turned out to be because of a bad USB cable, nothing wrong with product). Just because Canon does not supply USB cable with printer, I had to purchase a new one from Fry's. After driver installation when I plugged in the USB cable into my PC, it gave "USB device not recognized". Being tech savvy, I thought it might be a Vista compatibility issue or a printer issue - I suspected and checked everything else except USB cable. Canon support forced me to try another USB cable - that's when I found out. Canon and Amazon support were prompt and helpful. With the good cable, installation was over before I knew it. Tried out copy, print, scan - works great.

Finally know what all those adjustments do (2008-09-23)
The Art and Technique of Digital Color Correction

If you've ever tried to color correct in your NLE and have no idea of what all the adjustments mean (such as "input Black") and have been trying to teach yourself the software by just moving the knobs and looking at the results, then this book is for you. I am amazed after reading the first third of the book how much I have learned and how to use the built in scopes that come with most software. I may never become a colorist, but it sure makes my in-house projects far better. And when the day comes that I need to hire a colorist, I feel like I will be better prepared to speak the language. This will be another reference book that will be worn out from daily use.

An excellent book! (2008-08-25)

I 'searched inside this book' and after reading the table of contents and the first few pages I decided to buy it. I had my reservations - not because of what I had read in the intro, but by the last few DV books I had purchased on Amazon. I am, I suppose, something in between a novice and an intermediate editor, and I edit on Sony Vegas Pro. This I have found puts me in a rather awkward category. In the past, all of the 'how to' books I've read have been far too basic or software specific.

What I really appreciated was the tone and pitch of the book. Most of the time, I find introductory books condescending - they seem to assume your inexperience equals a lack of intelligence (and corny jokes are unbelievable).

Before I read the Art and Technique of Digital Color Correction, I new more or less nothing about colour correction - my former corrections, dare I say it, were largely made using the contrast/brightness control - but this book made perfect sense to me. Steve Hullfish writes enthusiastically and encouragingly, and the book I believe would suit novices and pro's alike. The clear definitions in the margins are an excellent idea and are perhaps the key to the book's ability to transcend the novice/pro divide. If you understand the terminology move on, if you don't the explanations are right there.

Although the book does not give examples from Vegas. It explains colorist parlance in useful analogies, and offers suggestions about where to look for color correction tools in NLE's other than Avid and Apple Color. By in large, I found Vegas had most of the tools, scopes etc, and although I love Vegas, after seeing what Apple Color can provide, I do have a little 'application' envy.

One last thing... here's a small anicdote: I recently made a short film on HDV and showed a couple of people who liked it and before I new it, I was being mentored by a large post production studio. I asked them for some advice on corrections. I ended up sitting down with their senior colourists, watching the film on the big screen and talking shop with them for a couple of hours. We were talking about masks, vignettes, secondaries, colour casts, gamma and all sorts of things that, to be honest, I new nothing about until I read this book. It seems there's no substitute for experience, but because this book is full of advice from colourists with many years of experience, why not learn from your mistakes before you make them!

American Cinematographer loved it (2008-06-27)
I disagree with the reviewer who said that the book claims that it's impossible to color correct with Adobe products. The MAIN readers of the first color correction book by the author were After Effects users, many of whom followed the advice of noted After Effects gurus, Trish and Chris Meyer.

American Cinematographer magazine's reviewer said this about the book: "likely to become the definitive text on the subject. Sensibly organized, lavishly illustrated and varied in perspective, it's a dense but highly readable summary of the current state of the art."

The cool thing about the book is that it is NOT platform or product specific. The author sat in on sessions with more than a dozen colorists around the country as they all graded the same images. The book walks the reader through those corrections from the viewpoint of these master colorists, instead of from the solitary viewpoint of the author. That's the value of the book. You are literally sitting in with people who have graded TV shows like "24" and "Desperate Housewives" and "LA Law" and "48 Hours" and movies like "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Spiderman" or those beautiful NFL Films.

This is a book for anyone using any software product. It is a book that is more about "why" to do the things you need to do than about "how" to do them with a specific piece of software.

Not just "How To" but "Why Do" (2008-05-22)
I originally wrote this review for my blog and decided to post it here since I think it'll help potential buyers decide if this book is for them. Enjoy...

First question: Is The Art and Technique of Digital Color Correction worth reading?

Answer: Yes! Absolutely.

Second question: Is it targeted at newbies or advanced users?

Yes. To both.

The first two thirds of the book "Primary Color Correction" and "Secondary Color Correction" deals with the fundamentals of our toolsets: monitoring, understanding waveform monitors and vectorscopes, balancing shots, vignettes, HSL isolations, and more. While this part of the book can be safely skipped over by more advanced users to whom all that info is second nature, Steve Hullfish does a nice job of surveying how different software apps approach the same concepts. And when a particular software package has a unique tool for achieving a particular task, he breaks it down for the reader.

The upshot: Even if you're experienced colorist on a Symphony you'll walk away with a strong understanding how other software apps work and what you might be missing (or what advantages you may have that you didn't realize). My advice, advanced users should at least skim through these parts paying particular attention when Steve takes a moment to pull a quote from the working professionals he features in the last third of the book. There are some great tips in these sections - especially on how different colorists set up multi-display scopes to help them nail black balance or tweak color values. I ended up changing some of my displays and found a few new setups that I really like.

Overall, the first two parts are not a dumbed down discussion. While Steve starts by laying down the ground-work emphasizing monitoring and external scopes (the latter being a deep discussion that permeates the entire book - which I very much appreciate), he seems to anticipate some of his readers finding material redundant and thankfully breaks out basic terminology to sidebars. Appropriately, those early chapters work through the subject matter in the same order a colorist will typically approach their problem-solving.

The final third of the book "Pro Colorists" is likely where the advanced users will want to begin. Why? That answer leads us to our third question...

Third Question: What makes this book different than other color correction books (or DVDs)?

The soul of this book is contained in the last few chapters and on its supplemental DVD. Steve sits with over a dozen accomplished, professional colorists and puts them in front of a common software color grading platform, Apple's Color (at the time called Final Touch HD), with a Tangent control surface. He gives them all the same set of footage (also provided on a DVD), presses 'record' on a DV camera and grills the colorists about the approach they are each taking to color correcting those images. The result is the author presenting up to three colorists approaching the same shot using different techniques. Or the same technique being used on different shots. Usually in the words of those colorists. It's a great education.

Even better are the transcripts Steve provides on the DVD that didn't make it into the book but he thought were informative. I've just started to read those and already I've gotten some new ideas about different approaches to common challenges.

Another thing that differentiates this book is its largely software-agnostic approach. Color, Avid Symphony, After Effects, Color Finesse, even Photoshop are all featured in the first 2 Chapters alone. Where interfaces are similar, Steve picks a software package and follows it through - pointing out where users of other apps might find things different. I suspect that if iMovie had a color correction module Steve would have a found a place to feature it.

Fourth Question: Any final thoughts?

This is clearly a book about concepts, not tools. As much as it necessarily covers the How To of working with color correction software, it's the Why Do that is emphasized.

In fact, Why Do is the whole point of the book.

Before you read this review you should know that I have not actually read the book in question. I'm writing the review specifically for people who are looking online for a book on color correction and don't have access to a copy in person to get a closer look.

I read the TOC for this book here on Amazon and then went to the local book store, where they happened to have a copy, because I needed to look closer before buying, so I'm passing what I learned on to you.

First, this looks like a really cool tutorial for anyone interested in a career in color correction and prepared to get the professional tools to follow that path. I also think in a few years I will be coming back to this book to learn more theory, because it looks strong there, too.

It also looks somewhat (if less) useful for those learning to color correct using either Avid or Final Cut Pro (which is, I know, the majority of practitioners).

However, if you are looking for a tool to learn how to color correct your own digital videos and you use the Adobe suite (Premiere Pro and After Effects), this author does not seem to feel that you have a fighting chance doing color correction at all, so you are out of his loop. I'm pretty sure that there are ways to color correct using these tools, though, especially with Photoshop CS3, so I, for one, am not going to go out and buy more software just yet. When I find the right book for us Adobe people I will post a review of that, too.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure this book will be wonderful for the rest of you (especially if you own a Mac).

I could just talk about useless thinks, but I'll just mention something for those who consider this the best paper, and want to print 5x7 images.
First, this doesn't come in 5x7. So, to print as such, there is a way I've found to print 5x7 with the 1280, and other semi-wide format printers.
Load the paper in the tray landscape. (I know, they say not to do it, but it works.) Then, tell the printer to print your 5x7 centered on half letter paper. When the pic is printed, print your other image with the blank half of the page on the right, when you face the printer.

Google's Chrome Browser Not Yet Secure

Google Chrome browser is only a day old, but security researchers already have found vulnerabilities that can be exploited. According to a report published by ZDNet, security researcher Aviv Raff has found that he can combine a flaw in the open source WebKit engine with a Java bug to dupe Google Chrome users into downloading executable files.

Apple, which uses WebKit in its Safari browser, fixed this flaw with its Safari 3.1.2 browser patch. Chrome uses an older version of WebKit that has not been repaired. Another security researcher, Rishi Narang, claimed to have found a way to crash Google Chrome with a malicious link.

"An issue exists in how chrome behaves with undefined-handlers in chrome.dll version 0.2.149.27," Narang explained on the Evil Fingers Web site. "A crash can result without user interaction. When a user is made to visit a malicious link, which has an undefined handler followed by a 'special' character, the Chrome crashes with a Google Chrome message window 'Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed. Restart now?' "

And someone identified as "Nerex" has posted proof-of-concept JavaScript code on Milw0rm.com that supposedly "allows files (e.g., executables) to be automatically downloaded to the user's computer without any user prompt."

This exploit appears to be similar to the one identified by Raff.

In theory, Google Chrome should be more secure than other browsers because, rather than being a single-threaded application, each tab is handled by its own sandboxed process with its own memory space. Like a multiengine plane, Chrome is designed not to crash following the loss of a single engine.

"[Chrome] utilizes technology that has historically been associated with operating systems to create isolation between different browser tabs with the aim of improved crash-resistance and security," IDC analyst Al Hilwa said in a research note. "The security capabilities also ensue from a new sandbox model that strengthens what is typically available today from other browsers."But Chrome is beta software and remains a work in progress.

Hilwa observes that while Google's security architecture isolates the browser's kernel from attacks on rendering-engine vulnerabilities, it doesn't extend this same protection to plug-ins like Java, Flash, and Silverlight.

Mozilla software engineer Robert O'Callahan in a blog post said that while Chrome looks promising, Google's coders still have challenges to overcome. "There are some interesting architectural problems they haven't solved yet, especially with the process separation model, especially with regard to windowless plugins, and also Mac," he said. "These are problems that will be encountered by anyone doing process separation so it will be interesting to see how that goes."

While printer toner itself isn't a health hazard, its fine powder in high concentration can be. So take precautions. Vacuum, don't sweep or brush, spilled toner dust. Clean up desktops or surfaces with a damp cloth. Avoid any contact with your eyes or mouth, and never ingest. To play it extra safe, put the toner in a zipped plastic bag to avoid possible dust emissions.

If you experience shortness of breath or persistent coughing, stop working with the printer toner, if applicable, and get fresh air immediately. Then seek medical attention if your symptoms persist.

This error is detected when the value of the Printer Protection Counter reaches its limits.

Keep in mind that what you are about to reset is the printer protection counter and not the chipset in your Continuous Ink System. Inknovation uses Autoreset chips in all our CISS.

Instruction:
1. Download and install SSC. There will be an icon on the desktop after finishing installing SSC Service Utility software.

2. Click this icon; you can start the main menu as the below picture shown.

a) Choose the printer model which you’ve installed driver in the first grid.

b) Choose the corresponding printer model supported in second grid.For some special printer models, such as CX5100, you can choose CX5200

c) Click the two choices in the small window below. The first one means don’t load Epson status agent service at startup; and the second means starting utility at Windows startup.

3. Click “REFRESH” and check whether ink volume is displayed as the following picture shown. If not or over 100%, it means the printer hasn’t been recognized. Then you can delete printer driver and re-install driver or re-start the computer so that the printer can be recognized.

4. When the printer can be recognized, close the window. Then you will see a small SSC image in the taskbar as the below picture shown.

5. Click right button of mouse on SSC image then you can start its functions.

6. “Protection counter” is the most useful function. When printer has printed lots of papers, it shall indicate, “the components have reached its life span”. At this time, two lights on panel will blink alternatively. Actually the truth is not like what the notice says. The reason for this problem is that EPSON has setup a “Printing Paper Record Utility” on the mainboard. When finish printing the fixed pages, it will suggest changing the waste ink pad. In fact, it still can be used for a long time. At this point, you can click the “Protection counter” and choose “ Reset protection counter” to clear the records as below picture shown.

7. Click “Yes” when there's a dialogue frame come out as below,

8. Then click “OK”. The waste counter is resetted.

9. In the end, turn off printer and switch it back on again. Now you have finished the “SSC Procedure”.

Toner-based printers work using the Xerographic principle that is at work in most photocopiers: by adhering toner to a light-sensitive print drum, then using static electricity to transfer the toner to the printing medium to which it is fused with heat and pressure.

The choice of print engine has a substantial effect on what jobs a printer is suitable for, as different technologies are capable of different levels of image/text quality, print speed, low cost, noise; in addition, some technologies are inappropriate for certain types of physical media (such as carbon paper or transparencies).
Another aspect of printer technology that is often forgotten is resistance to alteration: liquid ink such as from an inkjet head or fabric ribbon becomes absorbed by the paper fibers, so documents printed with a liquid ink sublimation printer are more difficult to alter than documents printed with toner or solid inks, which do not penetrate below the paper surface.
Checks should either be printed with liquid ink or on special "check paper with toner anchorage".[2] For similar reasons carbon film ribbons for IBM Selectric typewriters bore labels warning against using them to type negotiable instruments such as checks. The machine-readable lower portion of a check, however, must be printed using MICR toner or ink. Banks and other clearing houses employ automation equipment that relies on the magnetic flux from these specially printed characters to function properly.

Printers that include non-printing features are sometimes called Multifunction Printers (MFP) or Multi-Function Devices (MFD).

-removed all the ink cartridges and put them back

The Problem
1. The print head cartridge keeps locking itself up on the right hand side.
2. Frequent 5100 errors even when the printer is on standby
3. Even when I wipe up the print cartridge, the next print will mess up the bottom of the print cartridge with ink again.

here step to fix steps:

1. Opening the cover and wait for ink carriage to center
2. Pull out power cord
3. Pushed carriage to far left (should slide easily)
4. Used paper towel and wiped purge unit a lot of times (press down to soak paper towel with ink). Repeat until the paper towel is relatively clear.
5. Used diluted napisan (oxygen-based cleaning agent in the ratio of 1:3 with powder:water) and soaked paper towel
6. Repeat step 4 with wet paper towel. Repeat until purge unit is near-white.
7. Pulled and pushed clear plastic wiper (north of purge unit) and wiped it down
8. Slided carriage back to original position
9. Removed Print head cartridge and wiped out excess ink stuck on bottom.

Well, instead of just getting angry at the printer or hunting around for your manual, you can try one simple thing: unplug it.

This technique has a few names that all mean the same thing: cycling the printer, resetting the printer or clearing the printer’s memory. Now unplugging your printer may seem like a low-tech solution to complex problems, and in reality it is. But, for problems like blinking error lights it is the only solution and also, it is typically the first one that will be recommended to you by a technician working for HP, Lexmark, Epson etc. They will recommend it right away if you install a new cartridge and it is registering as empty. If your printer isn’t registering it full, then that means it still thinks the old cartridge is in there and the memory needs to be cleared by unplugging it.

The first thing to remember about this solution is that unplugging the printer is not the same as turning the printer off. If you have error messages or cartridge communication problems, then turning off the printer is not going to do anything. It has to be physically unplugged from the wall or the back of the printer itself (you don’t have to unplug the printer from the computer). The second and most important thing is that the printer must be unplugged for at least one minute. It takes at least one minute for all the electricity to be cut off from the printer to allow it to completely reset and clear its memory. If you just unplug it for a few seconds, when it comes back on it is going to pick up right where it left off.

While this technique will not fix every problem, it is still a very quick and easy solution to a lot of annoying printer problems and it is always the best place to start when one of those problems arises.

Aren't acronyms fun? LOL (laugh out loud). However, they sure can be confusing when selecting printers and inkjet inks. Most sites are good about defining the acronyms they use at least once, but finding that "once" isn't always as easy as it looks! Knowing how to speak "inkjet" will help you choose both the printer and the inkjet ink you need to get the kind of results you want! Here are a few inkjet acronyms and other terms to help with your searches for inkjet printers and related products:

AIO (all in one) and MFP (Multifunction Printer) - AIO and MFP are often used interchangeably and stand for printers that include a copier, a scanner, and frequently have fax capabilities as well. Relatively new in the marketplace, All-in-Ones are an affordable way to set up a comprehensively equipped home office.

CMYK- Inkjet colors: C=cyan, M=magenta, Y=yellow, and K=black. The first inkjet printers were three-color printers (CMY) that mixed colors to produce black. Today's printers generally have the capability to simultaneously use both black and colored inks on the same page.

DPI- Dots per inch. Measures the resolution of images produced by printers, scanners, etc. Typically, more dots per inch means that the image will display with more detail.

OEM- Another way to say brand name (or name brand). Actually means Original Equipment Manufacturer

PPM (pages per minute) and CPM (copies per minute) - How many sheets your printer will spew out per minute. PPM usually means printing directly from the printer and CPM denotes copies from a scanned item.

Aside from acronyms, other inkjet terms frequently appear when searching for inkjet printers, medias, and inks:

Bulk ink- Sold either as compatible printer ink or universal printer ink (see below). The difference between bulk ink and refill kits is that bulk ink doesn't come with either tools or instructions. Unless you are experienced in refilling inkjet cartridges and have the necessary tools on hand, a better money-saving refill solution is a compatible inkjet refill kit.

Compatible cartridge- Either a brand new inkjet cartridge or a remanufactured cartridge, which contains ink that is specially formulated to work with a particular model of printer.

Ink Refill Kit- Inks, tools, and instructions to refill your empty ink cartridge. Refill kits are generally less expensive than either new or remanufactured inkjet cartridges and are sold separately to refill black inkjet cartridges. Color refill kits typically come with one or more sets of CMY ink.

Remanufactured cartridge- Remanufactured cartridges are recycled cartridges that have been cleaned, factory inspected, and refilled with new compatible inkjet ink.

Universal ink- Several vendors advertise ink that is compatible with ANY printer. If that were true, then any ink would work in any printer. The truth is, they won't. Different ink viscosities (see below) and different sized print heads vary between both printer brands and printer models. If you don't have the option of choosing ink that is formulated especially for your printer, don't buy it.

Viscosity- Viscosity is how sticky the ink is. The higher the viscosity, the stickier the ink. Viscosity is a word that you will rarely see mentioned on ink cartridge sites, still it is a very important word when it comes to purchasing the appropriate ink for your inkjet printer.

nah akhirnya gw yg gw lakuin adalah:

1. Tahan tombol Stop/Reset trs pencet tombol power trs lepas lg tombol power nya(tombol Stop/Reset tetep ditahan), kl ga dilepas tombol power nya kan printer nya ga idup tuh.
2. Ketika printer nya dah idup dan stand by siap nge-print(bkn pas warming up), pencet dan tahan tombol power lalu pencet tombol Stop/reset beberapa kali(berhubung waktu itu ngasal gw lupa brapa kali nya ;p)
3. Lepas tuh tombol power biar printer nya mati, trs idupin lg... kl hoki MP-150 nya bisa nge print lg hehehe.

INDIKASI "WASTE FULL ERROR"
Lampu warna orange dan hijau hidup secara bergantian sebanyak 7 kali dengan spasi warna hijau, mengindikasikan bahwa waste counter sudah lebih dari 100%, ini adalah kondisi terakhir setelah peringatan operator call error dengan kode lampu orange berkedip tanpa diselingi warna hijau sebanyak8 kali.

SERVICE MODE
Dalam keadaan error maka printer dalam kondisi sibuk dan tidak siap dilakukan inspeksi, langkah awal untuk inspeksi diharuskan memasukkan printer pada mode service dengan cara sebagai berikut:
1. Dalam kondisi printer mati dengan printhead catridge terpasang,
pada saat power off (tanpa listrik) tekan dan tahan tombol power (sebelah kiri) kemudian
berikan power (masukkan kabel listrik).
2. Dalam kondisi tombol power masih tertekan, tekanlah tombol resume
(sebelah kanan) 2 kali, kemudian lepaskan tombol power,
dan tunggulah beberapa saat setelah lampu tidak berkedip.
3. Setelah lampu tidak mengindikasikan adanya error
berarti printer siap untuk diinspeksi, apabila masih ada indikasi error lain
silahkan cek apakah printhead cartridge sudah terpasang,
atau cobalah cek indikasi kode error tersebut.

EEPROM RESET
1. Silahkan pilih nomor port USB dari printer yang akan direset, perlu diperhatikan bahwa program GeneralTool tidak dapat digunakan apabila nomor port melebihi batas tertentu (20 port), apabila port USB sudah melebihi batas cobalah untuk menghapus printer-printer yang ada dan lakukan restart pada komputer, apabila port belum terhapus silahkan hilangkan melalui root didalam registry Windows.

2. Apabila diperlukan inisialisasi tipe printer tekanlah tombol "iP1000" didalam kotak "SET
DESTINATION", inisialisasi ini diperlukan apabila terjadi kesalahan tipe printer dimana tipeprinter tidak sesuai dengan daerah pemasaran (market area) atau tidak sesuai dengan kondisi asli (lihat tipe printer yang tertera di cover printer), silahkan cek tipe printer dengan menekan tombol "DEVICEID" didalam kotak "GET DEVICE ID".

3. Berikan tanda cek pada pilihan "EEPROM CLEAR", selanjutnya lakukan test pattern dengan
menekan tombol "TEST PATTERN 1" atau "TEST PATTERN 3", dimana "TEST PATERN 1" akan memberikan printout data EEPROM dan melakukan test prinhead untuk semua nozzle (hitam dan warna), "TEST PATTERN 3" akan memberikan printout data EEPROM dan melakukan test printhead untuk nozzle hitam.

4. Matikan printer dan cabutlah kabel listrik, tunggu beberapa saat untuk memastikan printer benar-benar mati. Siapkan tank berisi tinta penuh dan selanjutnya hidupkan kembali printer dan tunggu beberapa saat setelah proses printhead cleaning selesai (tahap printhead cleaning pertama) dan lampu hijau tidak berkedip. Silahkan cek nilai waste counter dengan menekan tombol "EEP-ROMINFORMATION", pastikan nilai waste counter (nilai D) tidak melebihi 10%.

5. Matikan printer, tunggu beberapa saat dan hidupkan kembali printer. Selanjutnya printer akan masukpada tahap printhead cleaning kedua. Silahkan lakukan test pattern untuk menampilkan printout data EEPROM (tanpa "CLEAR EEPROM") dan juga cobalah lakukan "Test Print Page" yang sudah disediakan oleh Windows melalui properties dari printer bersangkutan.

(1) Turn off the printer.
(2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button.

succession. Note: you are still holding the POWER button). The printer's carriage will "reset"
or move momentarily. If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the
"Service Mode".
