MP360/390 Waste ink tank full reset combin

My printer is a two years old Canon MP370 and have done the waste tank counter reset but should I really also clean the waste pad (or textile)itself - How do you get it out of the printer (step by step). Has anyone done this, looked around on Google and haven't seen anything so far.
